Waaia is cruising towards a quick day two victory next weekend after trumping Shepparton Youth Club United with the ball to set up a simple run chase for the Haisman Shield’s reigning premier.

The Bombers restricted SYCU to a score of 103, but strong defensive guards by United’s top order had Waaia waiting to get the pads on.
SYCU had failed to score a run when Mitch Cleeland bowled Keegan Armstrong, but it came at the end of the fourth over, depicting the tight bowling to be seen all innings long.
It would take until the 38th ball of the match for SYCU to get off the mark with a double for Tyler Green, however the remaining opener would be sent walking for three in the 13th over, having faced 41 balls to get to such a score.
Although SYCU had the will to survive, picking gaps at Princess Park was a formidable task.
Skipper Sebastian Menzhausen faced 139 balls for a return of only 19, while Reily Menhenett plucked 10 off 46.
Only Jake Callow could find the rope on a consistent basis, scoring nine fours on his way to 43 off 62.
Callow and Menzhausen put together a 46-run partnership across 16 overs, but when Callow was dismissed, the rest of the order was quick to follow suit.
SYCU suffered a collapse of 5-21 to be bowled out before the completion of the 59th over.

With spare overs still in the days play, Waaia kitted up to make sure next Saturday can see the Bombers return home potentially before afternoon tea.
Openers Sam Trower and Jordan Cleeland made starts with the bat, scoring 10 and 16 respectively, while not out pair Jaime Riley and Mitch Cleeland patiently batted to see out the day unbeaten, with scores of 13 and four heading in to day two’s play.
Frustatingly for SYCU, 11 extras has the Bombers trailing by 49 runs, more than halfway to the target score with eight wickets in hand.
It leaves the cricketers from Princess Park holding a slim amount of hope for its first win this summer, while Waaia is in a prime position to rebound from last week’s loss to Kyabram, and begin red ball cricket with a bang, potentially launching back into finals calculations.
THE GAME
SYCU 10-103 (Jake Callow 43, Sebastian Menzhausen 19, Jordan Cleeland 3-8) lead Waaia 2-54 (Jordan Cleeland 16, Jamie Riley 13 not out, Connor Green 1-9)
