While there was little doubt of the top four heading into the final round of the division one weekend pennant campaign, all that remained was to determine who landed where.
The minor premiers demonstrated their championship credentials with a commanding performance before the finals series begins.
Tallygaroopna secured its third consecutive Allan Matheson Shield minor championship and the double chance with a dominant 18-119 to 48 victory over Euroa, though the Magpies had already clinched its first finals appearance since being promoted back to the Allen Matheson Shield.
Tally skip Mark Ryan secured the biggest win of the day 38-5, while Mitch Sidebottom (28-8), Guy Madigan (26-14), and David Daws (27-21) fired last year’s grand finalist to an imposing warm-up bout.
Meanwhile, the race for second place and the coveted double chance ended with both Shepparton Golf and Shepparton Park tied on 171 points.
The reigning premier, however, had done enough on score difference.
The Golfers picked up an 18-shot win thanks to Kris Ferguson’s four (24-5) and Brent Reiner (19-9), curtailing a gallant Mooroopna who managed to get two rinks up through Bruce Robson and Daniel Considine.
Golf’s win was enough to secure a qualifying showdown against Tallygaroopna at Euroa Bowls Club, though Shepparton Park did everything in its power to steal the double chance.
