Four competitions were held across Tuesday and Thursday match days this year, with teams playing through a 14-round season, followed by a semi-final and preliminary final weekend that preceded December’s grand finals.
Tuesday’s eight team competition was split into a top and bottom four for finals, while Thursday game days featured three grades - pennant, A-grade and A1-grade - holding four, seven, and five teams respectively.
Tuesday’s top four finals saw minor premiers Kialla Park romp to a 5-34 to 1-18 victory over Shepparton Lawn White, while Tuesday’s bottom four grade was won by fifth-placed side St Andrew’s, also convincingly, 6-36 to 0-24 over Byrneside.
In the SDLMTA’s Thursday competition grand finals, Shepparton Lawn Gold defeated Lemnos narrowly, with a 4-29 to 2-26 championship scorelines.
A1-grade was equally tight games-wise, with the differential another two-set win with a thin margin of games, 2-28 to 4-30.
It was minor premiers St Brendan’s that held off the league’s late bolters Mooroopna, which rose from fourth to fall shy in the decider.
In A-grade, second-placed Murchison upset another ladder-leading St Brendan’s team, claiming a 4-28 to 2-21 result in the grand final on December 4, however the side was not present at the luncheon to accept their prize.
In addition to the grand final celebrations, three Rose Awards were also handed out to a trio of individuals who have had long-term involvement with running the SDLMTA.
Jillian Earl, Jeanette Sabri and Rosie Habel all went home with a plaque dedicated to acknowledging their years of volunteer service with the midweek competition.
News photographer Megan Fisher attended the ladies’ luncheon to capture the winners receiving their awards.
