Saturday saw round eight action light up the greens across the Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s top division, and the league’s leading luminaries were at their brightest when push came to shove.
Shepparton Park locked horns with Euroa in a scintillating top four stoush, and it delivered in spades as the match was decided by just three shots at the close.
Host side Park stole a six shot advantage in the first rink as Paul Nichols’ four had the wood over Shane Holmes and company, and Park went two rinks up as Shane Walsh’s quartet saluted 23-19 in the second set of ends.
Park eked out a 17-15 result in rink three, and though Euroa finished with a flourish - winning the fourth stanza by nine - the hosts rounded out 16-74 to 2-71 victors.
It leaves Park in third, 10 points adrift of Shepparton Golf, while Euroa still holds fourth by 14 points due to outside results.
Speaking of Golf, and yellow and blue crew had aces up their sleeve away to Tatura-Hill Top at the weekend.
The Golfers won all four rinks against an improving Bulldogs’ unit, rubber-stamping an 18-84 to 0-58 triumph that keeps them in the same airspace as ladder leader Tallygaroopna.
But the Redlegs will take some catching.
Tally completed its eighth straight victory in fine fashion, walloping Seymour VRI 16-103 to 2-45 as Guy Magidan’s rink scalped a ludicrous 39-5 result in the second set of ends.
It gives the Redlegs 20 points’ worth of breathing room at the pinnacle, while leaving VRI rooted to the bottom of the ladder.
In the other game of the round, East Shepparton scored its second match points for the season after seeing off Mooroopna by five shots.
East netted a 3-1 rink split, walking off their home greens 16-74 to 2-69 to the good.
