Old Students co-captain Felix Odell was in prime form on Saturday, sending the Kookaburra to all corners of Lemnos Recreation Reserve to lead his side to a mammoth win over Pine Lodge.
Chasing 182 for victory, Students resumed day two at 0-33 with Sam O’Brien and Callan McCabe on 20 and 13 not out respectively.
The duo stacked on another 29 runs before the former departed for 32, bringing Odell to the crease.

The left-hander punched gloves with McCabe and set about chasing the required runs before tea, smashing a six in his third over faced and keeping the boundaries flowing until the innings’ end.
McCabe, however, was bowled by Darshana Prasad Loku Hettige eight runs shy of a half century, though it left Students in a position of calm: 2-125 with Oscar Lambourn strolling out to the middle.
But what followed was far from friendly.
In less than 10 overs, Odell and Lambourn had surpassed Pine Lodge’s total, cutting the bowling attack to ribbons and treating the two-dayer like a T20 as the former brought up his ton with a trio of boundaries.
The duo weren’t done there, keeping the run rate flipping over at a stupendous rate as both saw the ball like pumpkins until Lambourn was caught out on 64.
Rehan Bari marked centre and continued the carnage before Odell made the call, declaring at 3-295 having made 129 glorious, undefeated runs without a falter.
It marks Odell’s best score in Australia having previously made 150 not out back in England, and while he said it’s “always nice when you’re making runs”, he chose to heap praise on some of Students’ young bats.
“(Lambourn is) a fantastic talent and he showed that again on the weekend with another great innings,” Odell said.
“He hasn’t really failed much his year so he seems to be showing everyone what he can do - really happy to have him on the side.
“Sam O’Brien, another good start for him - him and Callan laid the foundation for us really to give ourselves that opportunity. Happy with the way all of those guys batted.”
Remarkably, Students went at a clip of 9.8 runs an over for the last 10 overs of their innings, showing just how keen they were to challenge Pine Lodge once more as they sent the hosts in to bat once again.
This time, though, the visitors didn’t have it all their own way as Pine Lodge avoided an outright loss, seeing out the final 38 overs of the day at 3-70 as Hayden Cann (30 runs), Dylan Hardy (14) and Liam Trevaskis were outdone in the second innings.
Bari added to his fleeting cameo earlier with a magic three over spell, snaring 2-0.
Saturday’s win bumps Old Students up to seventh on the overall ladder with Karramomus up next, while Pine Lodge, still looking for a win, takes on an up an about Kyabram line up.
“It was nice to get that win on the board in the first of those two day games and hopefully (we) take some good momentum into the game against Karra which will be a good match,” Odell said.
“They’ve been in some good form this season so hopefully we perform the way we know we can and hopefully it’ll be another win for us.”
THE GAME

Felix Odell (Old Students): There was no getting near Odell on Saturday. The classy left hander notched his highest career score at a rate of knots, putting the Lodgers’ bowlers to the sword for a monster 129 not out.
