It was another cracking day of soccer at McEwen Reserve, Shepparton, as Goulburn Valley Suns continued their run of home games, welcoming powerhouse Box Hill United.

The junior Suns played a fourth game in as many weeks at home, with United travelling to Shepparton on Sunday.

In the under-18s, a late goal was enough to seal the points for the home side after more than 80 minutes of deadlock.
The Suns’ goal came in the 81st minute, courtesy of Declan Kinnane, and proved to be enough to win the game.

This game was always going to be an even contest and the win moves the Suns above United into fifth, two points behind ladder-leaders Eastern Lions.

It was another difficult day on the park for the under-14s, with ladder-leader United running out a 7-1 winner.

A 41st minute strike to Lucas Cirillo proved to be a mere consolation for the home side, with a dominant Box Hill always going to be difficult to beat.

United has not lost a game this season, sitting on top of the ladder with four wins and an impressive goal difference of 19 for and two against.
This makes Cirillo’s strike all the more special, with United’s defence almost unbeatable this season.

The result has the Suns sitting in 10th place on the ladder, just above Port Melbourne and Manningham United Blues.
In the 16s it was a similarly tough day out, going down 9-0.
Like its under-14 side, the under-16 United team is yet to lose a game and was always going to be a difficult side to beat.
Suns junior technical director Billy Marshall said there was not a focus on the heavy losses.

“The results are not what we really look at anyway, so all good, just developing the kids to play at the highest level in Victoria,” Marshall said.
Malvern City will be the junior Suns’ next opponent, travelling to Shepparton this coming Sunday.
The under-14s will start the day off at 10am, followed by the under-16s at 11.30am and the under-18s at 1.30pm.
