Euroa might be out of the finals race, but don’t tell the Magpies that.

The Magpies turned in their most complete Goulburn Valley League performance of 2025 on Saturday, thumping Mooroopna by 79 points in a clinical four-quarter display that offered a glimpse of the club’s future.
Fresh off two consecutive heartbreaking losses — by a combined five points — Euroa was due for a response and delivered in style.
The 17.14 (116) to 5.6 (36) result was as ruthless as it was important for a developing group that has battled injury, suspension and inconsistency in the back half of the season.

“To be honest, after the last couple of weeks, I would’ve taken any win,” coach Dave Gleeson said.
“But to win by 80 points and, to play with that level of consistency, that was probably our most complete performance for the year.”
Euroa’s midfield mix finally clicked, with Gleeson able to call upon a more balanced group than recent weeks.
That allowed gun forward Jett Trotter to spend more time closer to goal — and he made Mooroopna pay.
The crafty medium forward slotted another six majors, continuing his strong run of form in front of the sticks.
“If we could give him more supply, I think he’d be an 80 or 90-goal forward for the year,” Gleeson said.
“But given the inexperience in our side, sometimes he’s had to push up around the ball. But as a medium forward he’s pretty crafty and he’s a beautiful kick, so that helps.”
The Magpies opened up a commanding lead early and never looked back, extending the margin at every change.
With contributions across the board and a defensive group that kept Mooroopna to three goals, it was the kind of performance that gives a young side belief.
And, while finals are off the table for 2025, Gleeson says there’s still plenty to play for.
“We spoke about that right at the start of the year — what success was going to look like,” he said.
“We’ve been in most games this year and, apart from maybe two, we haven’t been totally outplayed. So we’re building confidence that this group can play at the level.”
Two rounds remain, starting with a trip to face Shepparton Swans this weekend — a side that beat Euroa comfortably earlier in the year.
“Their skills were high, way better than ours,” Gleeson said.
“We’ve got to win the ball at the source and we’ve got to be a lot more efficient with our kicking.”
With emerging midfielders like Will Creevey, Mitch Walters and Ryan Hill getting more game time and the likes of Trotter continuing to shine, the Magpies are finding form at the right time — and building on an improving 2026.
