It may have seemed a cinch before a bowl was rolled, but Shepparton Golf was given a major fright by Mooroopna in the Allan Matheson Shield on Saturday.

The reigning premier, ranked second, hosted the seventh placed Cats on Saturday in Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s division one weekend pennant, and though Golf escaped with the win, the margin was a nail-biting three shots.
The first rink was all Mooroopna.
Bruce Robson’s four were far too sharp for Wayne Dagger and co, lifting the Cats to a resounding 29-9 triumph in the first set of ends.
John Gribble skipped Golf back into the match as his second rink saluted by 16 shots, and the hosts - via Kris Ferguson - took the third set of ends 23-17.
The fourth rink was close in nature, but as good teams do, Golf found a way to eke out a result as Peter Leseuer’s quartet saluted by a shot over Darren Kelly, seeing the home side claim a 16-81 to 2-78 triumph.
It keeps the Golfers hoisted up in second - but Tallygaroopna will take some catching.
The Redlegs have been in white-hot form ever since the first roll of the jack, further galvanising pole position at the weekend against Euroa.
Tally treated the fellow top four Magpies like cellar dwellers, taking the chocolates 16-89 to 2-64 with a 30-11 last rink result blowing the visitors away.
In other games, Shepparton Park tore strips off Seymour VRI to claim a 16-94 to 2-60 win and firm its position in third, while Tatura-Hill Top climbed closer to a top four berth after downing East Sheparton 16-86 to 2-70.
The Bulldogs have another 12 points to make up if they are to level with Euroa, with the top four beginning to settle at the halfway mark.
