Saturday marked the beginning of weekend pennant semi-final action, and in division one, the two matches lived up to the billing of what post-season bowls are supposed to deliver.
Over at Euroa, Shepparton Golf handed Tallygaroopna just its second loss of the season to stun the minor premier and book a spot in March’s decider.
Every time these two GVPA juggernauts go blow for blow, sparks fly.
And the first rink rang true to that sentiment.
Classy skips David Daws and Brent Reiner went to toe-to-toe on the greens, with the former securing the Redlegs their one and only set of match points.
From there, John Gribble and Kris Ferguson steered the Golfers to a pair of four shot rink triumphs before star man Brad Orr brought his side home with a 22-20 thriller over counterpart Mark Ryan in the final set of ends.
Golf rounded out 16-77 to 2-70 victors, locking in another grand final berth while condemning the Redlegs to go the long way around.
They’ll meet Shepparton Park in this Saturday’s preliminary bout, after it trumped Euroa in a thin-lipped elimination final affair.
Squaring up on Shepparton Golf’s home deck, Park and Euroa shared the momentum in rinks one and two, with both sides recording healthy wins.
Euroa gained the ascendancy in the third rink as Shane Drysale and co landed a significant 15 shot advantage - but Park’s reply was even greater.
A 31-8 romp commandeered by Paul Nichols’ four all but sealed a remarkable turnaround victory from Park, closing the book on a courageous Euroa season in the wake of the 14-77 to 4-73 defeat.
Looking ahead, Shepparton Golf will host the division one preliminary final between Shepparton Park and Tallygaroopna this Saturday.
