Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s premier weekend pennant division has shared the spoils around over the opening six rounds, and on Saturday, it was East Shepparton’s turn to finally revel in glory.
East picked up its first set of match points at the weekend, defending its home greens effectively to the tune of a 16-86 to 2-76 victory over Seymour VRI.
The white, blue and green reigned supreme across three of the four rinks, namely Kevin Cox’s four saluting by 14 shots over Phillip Challis and company.
East’s other pair of rink wins were by two shots or fewer, showing Seymour VRI had plenty of skin in the game for large parts of the contest.
Regardless, the hosts’ victory lifts them into sixth while keeping VRI rooted to the ladder’s bottom rung.
Meanwhile, the revelation that is Euroa proved to the comp it is no flat track bully.
The southsiders stunned reigning premier Shepparton Golf in head-turning fashion, sending the Golfers back home smarting in the wake of a 14-84 to 4-71 defeat.
Three of the four sets of ends were evenly keeled, meaning it was the 26-12 triumph delivered by Shane Holmes’ quartet that proved the difference in the upset victory.
Euroa now usurps Golf’s holding on second, trailing only Tallygaroopna.
The Redlegs remained bulletproof on Saturday following their 18-101 to 0-51 pasting of Mooroopna, failing to drop a single rink in a true demonstration of power.
Tally’s 6-0 start has it earmarked as a clear premiership favourite, but its mettle will be tested next week when taking on an in-form Euroa outfit brimming with confidence.
Elsewhere, Shepparton Park prised open a 14 point gap between fourth and fifth by beating Tatura-Hill Top 14-91 to 4-80, keeping the Bulldogs at bay and ensuring Park remains in the four for another week.
