Waaia is well poised after day one of its Haisman Shield clash against Katandra, trailing by 100 runs with seven wickets remaining at Waaia Recreation Reserve - and its largely due to the work of Jordan Cleeland.
The Bombers’ all-rounder triggered a Katandra collapse that saw the Eagles lose 6-48 when momentum was in the visitors’ favour, going on to raise the ball with stunning figures of 5-25 off 16.4 overs.
However, the early honours belonged to Brandon Diplock.

The Waaia import dismissed Katandra opener Talon Wilson for one, and removed the next two wickets - including the dangerous Ben Pedretti - as the Eagles’ were pegged back from their assault at 3-61.
Mitch Cleeland took the important scalp of Corey Hickford six runs shy of a half century next, opening the door for his brother to come waltzing through and treat the middle like his personal dancefloor.
Cleeland - of the Jordan variety - removed Katandra’s spine Mortal Kombat style, taking every kind of pole imaginable on the way to a five-wicket haul.
The spinner also laid claim to a run out as Katandra was bowled out for 146, with Stephen Barrett (25 runs) and Sam Green (22) the Eagles’ other notable contributors alongside Hickford.
No sooner had Cleeland spearheaded Katandra’s capitulation, he was whacking on the pads and helping stabilise his own side’s batting innings.
Facing the new ball, Cleeland saw his opening partner Damien Atkins depart for 12 while the next two batters, Jaime Riley and Will Trower, were both trapped LBW by Grant Hutchins before breaking double figures.
At stumps, Cleeland is well poised on 20 not out while older sibling Mitch has faced three balls without score, Waaia sitting at 3-46 after 13 overs.
