Against a Shepparton Youth Club United outfit seeking its second win of the season, the Tigers’ veterans have them well-poised to do so after day one of the Haisman Shield clash at Deakin Reserve.
SYCU’s top order were under siege early after Ramdan Yze snared the first three wickets, sending the dangerous Tyler Green back to the sheds for 23 as well as Oliver Swain and Keegan Armstrong.
Sebastian Menzhausen battled hard for a gritty 51 from 114 balls to steady SYCU's innings, but he and Moin Ali both fell prey to spin king Jarrod Wakeling, leaving the visitors struggling at 5-94 after 54 overs.
Crucial lower order resistance from Jake Callow (24) and Joseph Hammond (25) provided some respectability, but late strikes to Dwain Vidler and two more scalps for Wakeling (4-66) limited SYCU to just 161 in an impressive Tigers bowling display.
Nevertheless, they were forced to bat a single over to finish the day with Sam Nash and Jack McCarten facing off, and at stumps CPStB had already made inroads with four runs for no loss.
The Tigers will resume next week requiring just 158 runs for a victory that could seal their top two ambitions.
