That’s how Murray Bushrangers’ coach Tyson Saunders summed up the top-age girls’ stifling Coates Talent League effort against Greater Western Victoria Rebels at the weekend.
The Bushies dominated from the outset, kicking 3.1 in the first quarter and maintaining their lead throughout, securing a convincing 8.10 (58) to 2.0 (12) victory over the Rebels.
“I think the weekend was a real testament to the way we wanted to play,” Saunders said.
“The girls put in a four-quarter effort, and it was just on the back of the way they connected with each other and were able to use those options that we've been speaking about over the first eight weeks.
“(It was) reward for the work that they've been putting in as a group.”
While Ellie Hall's stellar performance of 40 disposals and two goals was noteworthy, two rising Goulburn Valley talents proved crucial for the Bushies' success for the second week running.
Shepparton United’s Lana Carroll prospered from increased midfield time after impressing defensively in the Tasmania game, while Leila Creevey continues to grow in defence.
“Lana played a bit of a different role for us this week,” Saunders said.
“She played some more midfield minutes rather than that defensive style that she's been doing since the start of the year.
“We rotated her out of the forward line, and she did really well - she's a real competitor for us.
“Leila over the past few weeks is starting to find her feet just in the way she defends and stops those entries coming into the back line.”
The Bushies, 11th, have squared their win-loss record at 4-4 ahead of a Deakin Reserve showdown against the Dandenong Stingrays this Sunday at 2.30pm.
Meanwhile, the Murray Bushranger boys surrendered five goals to one behind in the first quarter of their match-up against GWV and never recovered, falling to a 49-point defeat.
Caden Ratcliffe (Mooroopna) and Jack Marks (Mansfield) were among the Bushies’ best in defeat.
The GV products will have an opportunity to put their best foot forward in front of a home Talent League crowd at Deakin Reserve, facing Dandenong at 12pm in Sunday’s round 12 clash.
