The women’s side fought valiantly against Strathfieldsaye Colts United FC and was in contention for the points right up until the final whistle.
The Colts snuck away from Jack Eddy Oval 3-2, handing the Border Raiders a third loss for 2025 in Women’s League 1.
The result creates a clear delineation between the top and bottom four in the league.
The Border Raiders are the best of the chasing four, sitting on four points with a 1-1-3 record.
The side hasn’t been far off the pace after its promotion from League 2.
An opening 7-2 defeat aside, every Border Raiders game has been decided by one goal or fewer through the first five matches.
Above the Border Raiders, the top four now have a slight cushion, Strathfieldsaye sitting more than a game clear on nine points.
After the league break for the King’s Birthday weekend, the Border Raiders return to action on Sunday, June 15, visiting McEwen Reserve to take on one of the top four in Shepparton United Soccer Club.

A full round of fixtures has passed in Men’s League 2, and the Border Raiders have now played every opponent once.
That cycle concluded on Sunday with the local side suffering a heavy 7-1 defeat to Spring Gully.
The first whistle had barely been blown before the Border Raiders found themselves behind, a penalty awarded in the opening minutes and Spring Gully capitalised on the opportunity to take the lead.
Raised arms and calls of offside from Border Raiders defenders were in vain as Spring Gully breached the defensive line twice more in the early going, dampening the home side’s spirits.
The visitors went into the break five goals to the good, and although the Border Raiders were able to get on the scoresheet through Daniel Rizani in the second 45, Spring Gully was able to win the half with two more goals.
With a full sample of results now in the books, the table doesn’t make encouraging reading for the Border Raiders.
The locals have now lost four straight since the opening day victory over Deniliquin Wanderers, and sit solidly in fifth position with a -12 goal differential, five points shy of the top four.
A positive note is that the Wanderers will be the Border Raiders’ next opponent on June 14, the side travelling to Rotary Park as teams begin a second cycle of fixtures.
