The 2023 premiers have struggled this season, with only one win under their belt, against Barooga, and looked to build momentum against a slow-starting Moama outfit.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
In what was expected to be a close contest, Moama got the upper hand early, goaling 10 times in the opening quarter while holding Tonny to six.
The second period saw both teams warm into the match, with the Blues recording an 11-goal period to bring them back into the contest, with the Magpies doing just enough to hold a five-goal lead at half-time.

The Moama defenders held Tonny to just nine goals in the third term, while its attack blossomed at the other end of the court, tallying 14 goals.
An eight-goal effort down the stretch wasn’t enough to get the Blues close to the Magpies’ total, with the home side running away with the contest and drilling 12 more for fun.
The final score was Moama 48 to Tongala 34.
The 14-goal loss served as another concerning reminder that Tongala was still off the finals pace a quarter of the way through the season, despite having been a strong competitor for most of the 2020s.

Both sides should be in for a win in round six, as the Magpies will return home for their annual ladies’ day event and will face struggling Barooga, while the Blues will travel to Cobram to come up against the Tigers.
