Simpson was recently announced as the replacement for outgoing coach and talented midcourter Jana Bruinier, who has stepped down after two years in the role.
Simpson, who has made more than 100 A and B-grade appearances, has been involved at Princess Park as a player or coach for the past 25 years.
The B-grade premiership mentor said she was thrilled to get a chance to coach her beloved Swans.
“I've been at Swans for all of my life really and I guess you could say I've been building up to this moment for a long time now,” Simpson said.
“I'm really excited; I love the club and I love coaching. I'm very passionate about netball and it's something I really enjoy being a part of."
Simpson said her love of developing and mentoring junior players stemmed from her time as the Swans’ Shepparton Netball Association coach.
The mother of four coached the Swans’ Goulburn Valley League under-15 outfit in 2021 and the side went through its campaign undefeated.
Simpson gave insight into the type of coach that many can expect to see next season.
“I used to play A-grade and coach B-grade and then when things got busy with the kids I took some time off, but about five years ago I started coaching the juniors," she said.
“That whole aspect of watching them grow and develop (as players) is incredibly satisfying.
“I like to balance out being competitive and having fun. I always expect 100 per cent focus, but I know there's time to stop and have jokes as well.”
The Swans’ A-grade outfit finished the cancelled season in fifth spot and regularly challenged the top teams above it.
Simpson hopes to build on that performance and said she had spent the early few weeks in the role contacting players and getting organised for 2022.
“It's definitely exciting times for the club,” she said.
“We have got some real talented youngsters in the 15s and 17s coming through, as well as in the senior sides. Majority of the girls are in that early 20s age bracket and I'm looking forward to building on what Jana started.
“I'm excited for the year ahead and fingers crossed we can get a full season in.”
