Charity in full swing as golf day raises truckload for GV Health

Even though there were chips and putts aplenty — and inadvertent slices along the way — it was ultimately a drive for healthcare that highlighted the Rotary Club of Central Shepparton's charity golf event held at Shepparton Golf Club on February 26.

Involved members gathered at Cellar 47 on April 28 for the official handover of proceeds, which amounted to a whopping $34,500 raised for a Goulburn Valley Health program.

The profits are set to be funnelled into nursing scholarships valued at $5000 each, with the Goulburn Valley Health Foundation matching the full total dollar for dollar.

Being a project the Rotary Club had supported for close to a decade, golf day chairman Rob Kelly eluded to how important these events were to Shepparton's health care system.

“There’s a big shortage of nurses at the hospital, they are desperately trying to employ people,” Kelly said.

“Part of this is to help with that, to make sure people are going to stay on, or to encourage people to take on the role.”

The major sponsors for the event were Hot and Cold Shop, Specsavers, Quicklift Crane Hire, Bendigo Bank and Shepparton Landrover and Jaguar.
