Kyabram Fire Brigade powered past Echuca on Saturday, March 6, claiming the A-grade premiership by nine wickets.
It was a dominant effort from the Flames, with the side's bowling unit spearheading the powerhouse club to back-to-back flags.
“It is pretty exciting (to go back-to-back) and that's why you play sport. To win premierships with your mates,” Kyabram skipper Brenton Campbell said.
“I'm super proud of the effort, our bowlers did an amazing job. They set up the win for us.”
Under clear conditions and on a hard Moama Recreation Reserve deck, the Flames wreaked havoc with the ball.
Jesse Barker (2-22) got the ball rolling with the first wicket of the match, but it was Bailey Goodwin (4-9) who orchestrated Echuca's demise.
Goodwin dismissed Taylor Beard which was followed by three more wickets in the space of eight runs.
Rob Salter (2-13) provided classy support with the ball as the Flames skittled Echuca for 87 runs in the 35th over.
“The pitch was hard and fast and the message was to bowl full,” Campbell said.
“We pitched it up and the boys were able to get it swinging. We picked up seven wickets that were caught behind.
“All the bowlers did a great job. To keep a side like Echuca to under 100 runs . . . you couldn't ask for much more than that.”
In the run chase, Fire Brigade lost opening batsman Barker for a duck — but that was when the winner's troubles ended.
Campbell produced a clinical unbeaten 53-run knock and piled on an 82-run partnership with Tyler Jones.
“Tyler has been fantastic all year,” the Flames’ captain said.
“It was his first-year at the club and he opened the batting all year, averaging really strong numbers.
“It was really nice to finish the run chase out there with him.”
