The Gators travel to Wangaratta to square off against the Warriors in their round four CBL north-east contest.
It's a must-win game for the Gators — who sit last on the ladder — to have any chance of featuring in the post-season.
And an important inclusion to the squad for this weekend will give them that chance.
Versatile guard Tom Frame will travel to Wangaratta for his first match of the campaign.
Frame's addition is certain to help bolster the young line-up in its quest to claim a win.
“It's great to have Tommy back in the line-up, he got caught up in Queensland when the borders shut,” Gators coach Matt Bartlett said.
“I'm really looking forward to seeing him get out there, he provides plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the group.
“He's put plenty of work in and we'll benefit from having him in the side.
“It's a big weekend for our Big V and CBL squads, who are off on a training camp. The players that won't play will all be in attendance and providing support on the night.”
● Meanwhile, a new junior representative competition kicks off this weekend.
The Junior Country Basketball League (JCBL) north-east division commences after first being touted in September last year.
The JCBL will consist of 10 country associations including Shepparton, Benalla, Cobram, Euroa, Mansfield, Myrtleford, Seymour, Wangaratta, Wodonga and Yarrawonga-Mulwala.
Age groups will range from under-12 to under-18 and matches will be played on weekends.
Country competitions co-ordinator Sammy Cartwright believes the fresh approach for junior basketball will benefit all stakeholders.
“It is incredibly exciting to be at the forefront of this new competition that may change the way junior basketball looks in the north east region,” he said.
“Not only does this format allow our junior players to get back to basketball after such a long period, but it also allows us to assist in providing some revenue for associations by hosting games.
“Our priority is to provide avenues for the continual development of associations, athletes, coaches and referees, and to see our game being appreciated for the awesome sport it is.”
