With three-point shooting promised from every player, the Gators will be looking to push the pace and make some money from beyond the arc as they look to build under new coach Josh Waight.
The return of a familiar face and the arrival of two fresh ones highlight the squad announcement, with former league MVP and club captain Matt Bartlett back on board.
Bartlett, 31, spent last season with the Bendigo Braves in NBL1, while former University of Hawai'i guard Garrett Jefferson and Zimbabwean-born Tinashe Matambanadzo look two of the side's likely new stars.
Jake Cowling has also returned from Bendigo to strengthen the Gators’ front-court, to be joined in the big department by Nick Dodd who will continue to be a mainstay of the side.
All in all, Waight expected big things from his new crew.
“It's really exciting, it's good to have some of our local boys back in the side,” Waight said.
“We've got some really talented players and I think it's going to allow us to play a high-tempo game, we've got a variety of shooters that can shoot it from three-point land. It's really exciting and I'm looking forward to it.”
The side shapes as a true three-headed monster with Bartlett, Jefferson and Matambanadzo sure to be a massive handful for any defence.
“The leadership (Bartlett) shows around the group is awesome, he has so much knowledge to pass on to the younger players from playing at a fairly high level. He's a really important player for us and our guys really look up to him as a player,” Waight said.
“(Matambanadzo) an exciting point guard who knows how to find the right shots for his teammates. He can shoot the three, but also defends across the floor like a bit of a pest, which is what we're looking for.
“(Jefferson) very similar, but a bit taller, and he defends multiple positions. He can play above the rim and he's a really exciting player that brings a lot to the team.”
The squad also features a number of young talents, headlined by under-18 Victoria representative Jordan Michel.
“That's what we want, there's plenty of young talent involved with the club,” Waight said.
“Our experienced players have a lot to offer them after playing at a higher level, their knowledge and passion can be really beneficial. These guys are the future of our club, so we need to make sure we're putting effort into them.”
The fixture for the new season is set to be released in the coming days.
