English import Henry Barrow was the destroyer for the Cats, running through the Students’ batsmen like a hot knife through butter.
After Mooroopna posted 8-169 batting first at Congupna Recreation Reserve it looked as if the game was in the balance at tea, but the Cats’ score soon became a moot point as Barrow went to work.
The speedster bowled eight overs straight from the top of the innings to snare 6-15 and decimate the opposition's batting order, with Aaron DiFede backing him up from the other end to keep the pressure on and take 3-10 himself from six overs.
Callan McCabe and Tim Looby top-scored for the home side with five runs apiece as the Students were all-out in the 16th over.
It invoked immediate memories of another scary Mooroopna bowling performance almost three years ago, where the Cats rolled Northerners for 15 on February 18, 2017.
That time around it was Jeremy Mullane and Paul Marshall who shared the 10 Jets wickets, taking five each.
Barrow's figures at the weekend were his best in the Cricket Shepparton ranks this season, a third five-wicket haul giving him 28 wickets at 10.6 for the summer.
Earlier, the Students had produced a great bowling performance of their own to restrict the Cats with Looby taking 4-14 from his nine overs.
The visitors had stumbled to 5-65 before skipper Sam O'Brien (42 not out) and Mark Kitto (28) took the bit between their teeth to drag their side to a defendable score.
Although it quickly proved insurmountable once Barrow had the new ball in his hand.
THE GAME
Mooroopna 8-169 (Sam O'Brien 42 not out, Mark Kitto 28, Tim Looby 4-14) d Old Students 29 (Henry Barrow 6-15, Aaron DiFede 3-10).
STAR PLAYER
Henry Barrow (Mooroopna): There is rarely anything better to watch than a speedster with his tail up ripping through a batting order. Barrow was in supreme form for the Cats to take 6-15 and help dismiss Old Students for 29.
