Paul Newman blasted a run-a-ball 51 in his first match for his club, as he helped lead Kyabram to an impressive seven-wicket victory against Northerners.
The former Kyabram Fire Brigade and Goulburn Murray Cricket run-scoring machine showcased his talents at the top of the order, with six boundaries and one maximum from his 50 deliveries.
It was a massive opening statement from Newman and the Redbacks as they kick-started their new campaign with a resounding victory at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve.
After losing the toss and being sent in, the Jets started shakily.
Returning opener Ben Pedretti was the first to go for one as Charlie McLay (2-20) got him to hit a catch to Newman.
But it was Charlie's brother Jackson (3-11) that did the damage next, as he tore through the Jets' top-order.
Joel Brett (22) tried to steady the ship, but after Matt Hall departed for five, the home side lost 4-7 with gun recruit Rhiley Lau bowled for a duck.
Daniel Burness (21 off 69 deliveries) and Glen Davidson (17) dug deep as they tried to post a defendable total, but unfortunately for their side, they were rattled for 107 off 36.4 overs.
Kyabram's Lukas Hanslow provided plenty of support with the ball for the McLay brothers and nabbed 2-17 off his five overs.
With a low score on the board, early wickets would become like gold for Northerners.
However, what came next was only gold for the away side, as Newman blasted his way to an impressive half-century.
Trent Sidebottom (1-13) and Grant Hutchins (2-13) tried effortlessly with the Kookaburra in hand, but the day belonged to the Redbacks as they chased the total with 21 overs to spare.
