After a 19-point Picola District Football League qualifying loss to the Bombers — in which they led at each of the first three breaks — the Tigers must first get through Rennie in a semi-final, then Strathmerton in a preliminary final to potentially face the league's leading side in the grand final.
But with such daunting challenges in front of them, the Tigers will certainly be taking it one week at a time, initially aiming to keep their season alive against the two-time defending champion at Mathoura on Saturday.
Rennie eased through its elimination final clash with Mathoura, winning by 55 points in an impressive display, with eight goals from Chase Strawhorn spearheading its attack in a big way.
While his side earned a one-point win against the Hoppers in round seven, Katamatite coach Jedd Wright knew the importance of quickly forgetting about last week's game.
"I think we probably blew it, we were three or four goals up with a minute to go in the third term, they kicked two goals and that really swung the momentum. Waaia is a really good team and I hope we get the chance to play them again," Wright said.
"But Rennie is a quality team and we take confidence from last weekend that our best football will see us right there.
"Rennie will be doing Rennie things, going out there and trying to win flags. It's a really big job in front of us."
Along with Strawhorn, Duane Rhodes looked threatening against the Timbercutters with four goals, but it was the usual Hopper suspects like Cam Sudholz, Craig Ednie, Luke Ednie and Alex Brooks that led the way in the finals environment.
While shutting down Strawhorn will be important, the midfield battle will be just as vital, with Katamatite's stars asked to once again take on a loaded on-ball group.
"Tommy Buzza will get the first crack at (Strawhorn), I think he's the best backman in the competition and Chase is obviously the best forward," Wright said.
"I think the game might be won and lost there, but the midfield can definitely help that too. Our midfield dominated the game last week and I think it's up to them to do it again."
