NCWL grand final - Mooroopna pull off heist for the ages

By Tyler Maher

Mooroopna pulled off one of the great heists in football history to knock over Echuca in the Northern Country Women's League decider at Deakin Reserve last night.

The Cats were ferocious in their attack on the football throughout the grand final, pulling away from the previously undefeated minor premier in the third term and holding it out for a stirring 9.4 (58) to 6.4 (40) triumph.

Tamara Smith collected the medal for best afield, but the work of Kiara Cooper, Kayla Shepherd and Brittany Tancred — among a plethora of others — was something to behold.

Terry Mahoney's troops were swamped by supporters and family as the final siren sounded, with celebrations set to continue deep into the night after the securing of Mooroopna's first senior football premiership since 1986.
