Nagambie 18.10 (118) d
Tallygaroopna 6.10 (64)
The race for the Kyabram District League premiership has heated up on Saturday after ladder leader Tallygaroopna suffered its first defeat since a 2017 elimination final.
Fierce rival Nagambie had a surprising nine-goal win in the round 17 contest, ending reigning premier Tallygaroopna's 14-game winning streak this season.
The loss was the Redlegs' first since losing to Avenel in the 2017 finals, as they went through last season's premiership year with 17 wins and one draw.
But the weekend belonged to Nagambie, as they clinched their 14th straight victory.
The first quarter was evenly balanced, but the reigning premiers edged ahead for a six-point advantage.
But Nagambie's impressive second quarter effort secured the win, as Anthony Haysom's side kicked eight unanswered goals.
Michael Roberts and Haysom nailed four goals each to lead the second quarter onslaught.
Tallygaroopna was left stunned, kicking just a single behind, as the Lakers opened up a 44-point lead at the main break.
As good sides do, Tallygaroopna responded after half-time kicking four goals to two in the third term, to be within 31 points at the final break.
But it was another game-winning quarter for the Lakers, as they went on to clinch a memorable 18.10 (118) to 9.10 (64) win.
Daniel Haysom was the pick of the players for Nagambie, while Blake Fothergill and Mark Nolan provided strong performances.
Tallygaroopna - without talented duo Tyson Sidebottom and Tim Karolidis - were led from the front by Sam Muggleton and Brett Sheriff.
Josh Wellington popped up and kicked three goals alongside his Redlegs teammate Heath Barton.
Saturday's result leaves Tally equal on 64 points with second-placed Nagambie, while Avenel is one game behind in third spot.
In the last regular season round, Tallygaroopna takes on finals hopeful Lancaster, while Nagambie travels to take on Dookie United.
