The finals picture has become clearer in the Murray Football League. Not only is the regular season approaching its zenith, the venues at which the knockout battles will take place have also been announced. The first weekend of finals — starting August 31 — will take played at Moama, Echuca United, Numurkah and Tungamah. Qualifying finals will be played at Moama Recreation Reserve and Echuca South Recreation Reserve on the Saturday, with the Numurkah Showgrounds and Jubilee Park hosting elimination finals on the Sunday. Cobram’s Scott Oval will be the scene of semi-finals on the next Saturday of the series, with Nathalia Recreation Reserve hosting Sunday’s matches. Preliminary final action will take place at Katandra Recreation Reserve on the Saturday and Barooga Recreation Reserve on the Sunday. The season will culminate in Finley for the grand final festivities, which the league’s constituents have known for most of the year. For many sides though there is still plenty of work to be done in order to extend the season past August. Tungamah and Numurkah battle today, with the former looking to sure up eighth spot on the ladder. Nick Lawless and Duane Haebich managed three goals apiece for the Bears in a win against Cobram last round, while Terence and Jake Jones were also impressive. Barooga is still holding out hope for a late charge up the table, but will need a win against Tongala today to make that happen, while 10th-placed Finley faces a tough task against Echuca United. In other fixtures, Congupna hosts Rumbalara, Katandra faces Mulwala and Nathalia travels to Moama to take on the Magpies.
