Wallis St repairs to start

Mitchell Shire Council will undertake important reconstruction and resurfacing works in Wallis St, Seymour from January 28 until February 28.

Wallis St, between Bishop St and High St, will see the removal of the current road surface, the road base stabilised and finished with a new asphalt surface.

During construction the road will be limited to one lane with full traffic management in place.

While there will be minor delays, vehicles will still be able to move through the area.

Council reminds drivers to adhere to the instructions of traffic management for your safety and the safety of road workers.

Council undertook works on Wallis St in 2019, but following road surface failure, further testing indicated the need to undertake major repairs because of a poor road base.

This reconstruction will be fully funded through the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.

Mitchell Shire Mayor David Lowe thanked businesses and residents for their patience during the reconstruction period.

“These works will create a smoother and safer road in Seymour’s commercial precinct. While there may be some short-term delays, this stabilisation will ensure improved traffic flow into the future,” he said.

“We understand the importance of this road to support business and community in Seymour and have prioritised its reconstruction through the Roads to Recovery program.”
