A 19-year-old Shepparton man pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to driving with an unrestrained passenger, driving without number plates, driving without a rear P-plate, and failing to carry a probationary licence.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Nathan Marsh told the court the back number plate of the Honda Accord the man was driving around Shepparton on December 8, 2024 was covered with a Syrian flag.
There was also a passenger standing up through the sunroof of the car, also holding a Syrian flag, Sen Constable Marsh said.
The court heard the man told the police who stopped him on Wyndham St that he didn’t know it wasn’t okay to drive with the back number plate covered because the front plate was visible.
He was also driving without his licence on him and without a P-plate on the back of the car.
Representing himself in court, the man said he forgot his licence at home, and he didn’t have P-plates because he didn’t usually drive that car.
Magistrate David Faram placed the man on an adjourned undertaking to be of good behaviour for 12 months.
He was ordered to pay $250 to CoolHeads and no conviction was recorded.
