Murray River Police District officers were investigating reports a 27-year-old woman was assaulted by a man known to her in Moama on Saturday, July 11.
At about 10am on Wednesday, as part of the investigation, police attempted to speak to a 26-year-old man at a velodrome near Kirchhofer St at Moama.
On police approach, he allegedly ran from the scene, commencing a foot pursuit.
Following extensive inquiries, with assistance from Victoria Police, the man was arrested in a toilet at Moama Anglican Grammar about 15 minutes later.
Police say they found a knife in the school car park, which will undergo forensic examination.
No students or staff were injured during the incident.
In a statement to The Riv, Moama Anglican Grammar principal Scott Downward said students and staff remained safe during the lockdown period as they followed the emergency procedures.
“I am grateful for the work of the local police who managed this situation in consultation with our staff to ensure communal safety, and express my thanks to our staff for their support of our students and each other throughout the lockdown,” he said.
The man was charged with two counts contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, four counts stalking or intimidating intending fear, physical harm, two counts entering enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, two counts of destroying or damaging property, common assault, larceny, enter dwelling with intention, custody of knife in public place, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs and knowingly contravene third or more time in 28 days an apprehended violence order.
He was refused bail and appeared at Bail Division Court 5 on Thursday, July 16.
