A building site at a sporting precinct has been declared a crime scene following the discovery of human remains.
Echuca police have confirmed old human remains were found at the north-west side of the Victoria Park precinct on Friday, February 13.
Construction workers at the site, which is undergoing a multimillion-dollar upgrade, notified police of the discovery.
Echuca police Acting Detective Sergeant Andrew Aujard said police had assessed the bones as being “quite old”.
The remains will undergo forensic testing with the Coroners Court.
Police could not confirm the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death, or whether it would be treated as suspicious.
Det Sgt Aujard said police were continuing to check the area, and more information would be available in the coming days.
