It’s not a dumb business idea if someone’s willing to pay for the service, and one of the more unusual ones came across The News business desk this week: fireworks funerals.

Looking to expand its business nationally, Sydney company Ashes to Ashes Fireworks Funerals, which specialises in sending the cremated ashes of customers’ loved ones up in fireworks, thought to email a media release to The News.
“We have gone one step further and are now sending your pets’ cremated remains up in a spectacular fireworks display,” the company said.
Given dogs are usually terrified of fireworks, I’m not sure what Fido would make of it, or Granny for that matter, but if the people pay, well then...

Oddie might seem a little old to have kids who still expect the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus to visit their door, but he does, and a camping trip over the Easter break did cause consternation among the little tackers.
“How will the Easter Bunny find us if we’re out in the bush,” one asked with a furrowed brow usually reserved for parents.
Oddie had to explain that with the impacts of myxomatosis and the calicivirus wearing off, there were plenty of bunnies out bush, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
Still, a nest was built for the eggs to help the bunny find our camp and thankfully, frowns were turned upside down after he did.
Oddie just has to make sure his family avoids any deer-hunting hot spots at Christmas time.
The end of daylight saving
It is that time of the year again when talk among some parts of the community turns to the curtains no longer fading and the cows not knowing when to come for milking.
That’s right, it’s the end of daylight saving this weekend.
Before going to bed on Saturday night, those in Victoria, NSW, Tasmania and South Australia will all turn their clocks back an hour.
That’s for those of us, such as Oddie, who still have clocks.
For those of you relying on your mobile phone to tell the time, it will automatically change for you.
There will be no change in Western Australia, the Northern Territory or Queensland though — because they like to march to the beat of their own drum and don’t have daylight saving.
A whole extra hour of sleep (or partying, for those that way inclined) — Oddie can get behind that.
