Shepparton
In reply to all the publicity regarding the ‘Big Pear’ I would like to make a few suggestions of my own.
Yes I would be happy to see that come into fruition (floo-ich-en), but not out at Emerald Bank.
There is enough there already — visitors could spend a whole day there.
It needs to go on the grassed area near all the cows at the end of the causeway (Monash Park).
There is always people taking photos of the cows down there and with all the traffic coming off the causeway into town it make sense.
Then a small walk to the Heritage Centre and if they wanted a cuppa the (senior) citizens building could handle it; if that big building there is not utilised enough and you could get in through the grassed area at the back of building.
Why would you have it out south of Shepparton?
Not an orchard in sight!
Most orchards are at Ardmona, Grahamvale, Shepparton East and a little at Orrvale.
The Shepparton cannery is in the heart of the city, and the cannery shop definitely is You can go there any day and see the amount of caravans parked down there with trolleys full of fruit and goodies.
We need to bring people into the heart of Shepparton, and this is the way to do it.
My grandfather Lou Michel and father, also Lou Michel, had orchards at Shepparton East.
So I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and donate $1000 to start this process to happen.
I am sure the everyday person, cannery workers, trucking companies, chemical companies etc would all be prepared to put in some money to make it happen in the heart of Shepparton.
