I was disappointed reading the Victorian Newsrail, a monthly magazine covering Victorian railways news.

Our new VLocity trains, set to be running on the Shepparton line and currently being built in Dandenong, will not have a buffet car. I confirmed this with V/Line.
Currently the locomotive-operated passenger trains have buffet cars providing hot drinks, hot snacks, sandwiches and sweets.
On the Shepparton line passengers travel from as far away as Griffith by bus to catch the train to Melbourne. They have to catch their bus at 2am and by the time they board the train at Shepparton they would require sustenance. I know they could bring a Thermos and pack food, but the buffet is convenient when they are carrying luggage.
Often the elderly people have medical appointments in Meblbourne and return in the evening with no buffet, and do not reach their destination until the early hours.
Even as a passenger from Shepparton to Melbourne I enjoy the buffet car in the morning and late-evening services.
