Murray River Council is reminding property owners that their water usage can be tracked online via the MiWater customer portal.
Residents can register through the portal and see, in near-real-time, their own water consumption, create water consumption targets and set up alerts for when targets have been or are likely to be exceeded.
Properties with smart water meters can be added to owners' MiWater profile and access to water usage info can also be given to others, such as tenants and real estate agents.
The MiWater application can also alert council staff to any potential high quantity leaks so that residents can be notified of potential issues on their property.
Murray River Council mayor John Harvie said the app could help residents save money.
“Our MiWater platform allows customers to break down their water use day-by-day, or set alerts to be notified when usage hits a certain amount,” he said.
“We are mindful that all savings, big or small, count for the community and the environment, so we are encouraging residents to sign up: it’s quick and it’s free.”
