VicRoads introduces second-hand vehicle report

Second-hand vehicle buyers in Victoria can now access a vehicle report from VicRoads.

This exclusive report includes Victorian registration and transfer history, plus insights from past roadworthy inspections.

Key details they contain include:

Outcomes of previous roadworthy inspections
History of registration and transfers
Recorded odometer readings
Financial liability check (including an official Personal Property Securities Register certificate)
Safety and emission ratings
Status of stolen and written-off vehicles
A comparison tool displaying recent sale prices of similar vehicles

VicRoads Registration and Licensing Services chief executive Giles Thompson said he believed Victorians would now be able to make more informed decisions when buying used cars.

“Buying a second-hand vehicle can be a confusing experience for many Victorians. That’s why we’re delighted to launch the VicRoads Vehicle Report,” he said.

“VicRoads is committed to enhancing consumer confidence and safety in the second-hand vehicle market, by providing them with information to assist their decision-making when purchasing a second-hand vehicle.

“This will ensure that customers have a more holistic picture of the vehicle’s condition, value and, more importantly, safety, so that they can then compare it to similar vehicles they may be looking to buy.”

Priced at $27.65, the report can be purchased and downloaded from the VicRoads website. Used car dealers also have access to this report.

The VicRoads Vehicle Report covers a range of vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, caravans, trailers and heavy vehicles.
