He is the guest speaker at the Deniliquin & District Transport Industry Wall of Fame dinner, which will be held as part of the three-day Deniliquin Truck Show weekend from October 24 to 25.
Born Paul Andrews, ‘Sludge’ was raised in Freshford, New Zealand and grew up in the industry when his parents started Andrews Transport.
After originally following his dreams in motocross, he entered the trucking industry in NZ under the mentorship of Derek Murray, who had worked with his parents.
He then formed his own business and moved to Australia, where he’s been working for three decades.
A friend nominated him to film with Outback Truckers.
Initially, he was quite reluctant, but in season three he decided to give it a go.
He and his truck The Phantom have been a regular favourite on the show ever since. The program is now in its 11th season.
The dinner will be held at the Deniliquin RSL Club on the first night of the Truck Show weekend.
As well as being a night to celebrate the industry and learn from those in the industry, it’s also a chance to honour the latest inductees to the Wall of Fame.
The dinner is an over-18s event only. Tickets are just $60 and can be purchased at https://www.trybooking.com/DDLTS.
On Saturday, October 25, the action moves to the Deni Ute Muster site on Conargo Rd, Deniliquin.
The event is famed for its dazzling display of chrome-covered rigs - all vying for show ‘n’ shine glory - family-friendly entertainment, raffles, auctions, and a community atmosphere that celebrates the transport industry.
The addition of a modified tractor pull at this year’s show will add serious muscle to the mix.
Expect roaring engines, billowing smoke, and fierce competition as local legends and seasoned pullers go head-to-head in one of the most thrilling additions to the Truck Show.
Open to the public from 11am to 10pm, tickets are $20 for anyone over 16, with free entry for under 16s with an adult ticket holder. Camping on site is being offered this year, for an additional cost of $30.
Get your tickets online at https://www.trybooking.com/DDLQF.
The weekend concludes with a transport industry memorial service, to remember those lost from the industry, at the Legend’s Rest rest stop on Davidson St, Deniliquin, where the Wall of Fame and memorial wall stands.
