Anne Logie and Anne Braybon laced up their shoes and hit the Sydney coastline on Sunday, August 3, joining more than 1,100 participants in the national fundraising challenge.
“The conditions were absolutely terrible,” said the pair.
“We were walking through gusty winds and steady rain, with 38mm falling during the day.
“The headwinds made it an incredibly tough walk.”
Despite the harsh weather, the pair powered through, finishing around the 800th mark and raising an impressive $1,731 for the Mito Foundation.
In the lead-up to the event, the pair had been spotted training around Tocumwal in their distinctive red team shirts, determined to be ready for the challenge.
The Bloody Long Walk is held in cities across Australia and aims to raise both funds and awareness for mitochondrial disease (mito) - a devastating and currently incurable condition that affects the body’s ability to produce energy, often leading to multiple organ failure.
Funds raised support critical research and family support services through the Mito Foundation.

The works on Tocumwal’s National Memorial WAAAF Creek Walk are now complete.
The project saw Bessies Bridge, Robert Bridge, and the Boardwalk Bridge replaced with reinforced steel structures, ensuring greater resilience and safety for public use.
The upgrades come in response to damage caused by recent flood events, which have compromised the structural integrity of the current wooden bridges.

The works are being jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, aimed at improving public infrastructure impacted by natural disasters.
All three pedestrian bridges have been successfully installed and the area has been revitalised to honour the service and history of the WAAAF.
Berrigan Shire Council is proud to have delivered this meaningful project for the community.
