The fish was the best of a couple taken, with grubs proving to be the succesful bait of choice, and proving the river is still producing for those putting in the time.

If you’re chasing yellowbelly or Murray cod in local waters, a few classic baits continue to out‑perform the rest.
Yellowbelly are reliable takers of worms, shrimp and small yabbies, especially when fished close to structure.
Fresh shrimp remain the standout when they’re available, and a lightly weighted rig that lets the bait move naturally often helps trigger a bite.
Murray cod favour bigger, more substantial offerings.
Large yabbies, cheese and grubs are long‑proven options, with many cod caught tight against timber on nothing more than a well‑presented grub.
Freshness is key, and placing the bait right in their strike zone usually makes the difference.
Both species tend to feed best early and late in the day, making dawn and dusk ideal times to be on the water.
