With the Mywee Community Group having outstanding funds, a decision to establish a scholarship was supported by the Strathmerton Lions Club and a trust account was set up at Bendigo Bank.
When the sale of the property was settled, all proceeds for that and assets of Mywee Community Group were transferred to the trust fund and the group was disbanded.
A scholarship for a student from a defined area who completed Year 12 and intended to apply for an undergraduate degree in teaching or health science could apply.
Due to unexpected delays, it was not finalised until March 2025.
The inaugural winner, Tylah Trenerry, was awarded the scholarship at a formal dinner attended by all Strathmerton Lions members and invited guests in April.
Tylah completed her VCE at Cobram Secondary College in 2024 and is working a gap year at GV Hospital, Shepparton.
She will begin her studies in occupational health therapy at Charles Sturt University, Albury in 2026.
The end of the year will soon be here for Year 12 students, and Strathmerton Lions Club is now inviting eligible students intending to do teaching or health science to apply for the scholarship.
Schools will provide students with details on how to apply.
Strathmerton Lions are hoping more applications will be received now the first scholarship has been received.
