Spry farewells Moama Anglican Grammar School

Mrs Spry will be replaced as principal by Caulfield Grammar head of teaching Scott Downward, who starts in January, 2023.

The move closes the book on Mrs Spry’s five-year stint with the Moama-based school and she said she was excited about the next chapter.

“I let them know in November last year that I wasn’t going to stay a further five years which gave the board a good chance to find my replacement,” Mrs Spry said.

“There are five secondary schools in the Catholic diocese and I will work with the five principals from those secondary schools helping them and supporting them to do their roles in their individual schools.

“I’ll be helping principals, and having been in the role I’m in a good position to be able to know what things to do to support them in their jobs.”

Mrs Spry, who has worked in education for more than three decades, reflected on her time and dedication to Moama Grammar.

“It’s a great school,” she said.

“I really like working with students and seeing them flourish. It’s been a fabulous five years.

“I’ve been teaching now for more than 30 years. I really like regional country schools, I’ve spent most of my career in country towns or regional centres.”

Before arriving in Moama, she was assistant principal and head of secondary at an independent Anglican school in Coffs Harbour.

“They’re a similar school in that they’re kindergarten to Year 12 on one campus, but they were over a thousand students so it was a much bigger school,” Mrs Spry said.

“I used to run the secondary school and it was just over 700 students.”

Mrs Spry acknowledged the efforts of staff and students during her time as principal.

“Some people when I started here moved into more senior roles and their careers really grew and developed,” Mrs Spry said.

“It’s been fantastic to watch and be a part of. I really love the students, the families and the staff.”
