The board of SPC Global, as it is known, is recommending a change from the century-old SPC name to ‘Altiva’ to reflect a diversity of food operations it now runs.
The name change will be put to shareholders at the company’s annual meeting on November 24.
Country News understands the company will continue to use the SPC brand name for some products.
SPC managing director Robert Iervasi said the company had brought together complementary businesses across food, beverages and dairy, each with strong brands and an expanding international presence.
“Each of our trading divisions will continue to shape the group’s future, with the proposed Altiva Global identity bringing their collective strengths and ambitions together,” he said.
“Our strategy is to build on those collective strengths as one integrated group.
“The proposed name give us a clear corporate identity to support that direction, while preserving the individual identities of our business divisions and brands our customers and consumers know and trust.”
The proposed name reflects the group’s evolution into one diversified company, with multiple business divisions and established strengths across food, beverages and dairy, the company said.
“It recognises the breadth of the group’s portfolio and the strength of its international business, providing a shared corporate identity to support its growth ambitions in Australia and overseas,” SPC said.
“SPC remains an important business division within the group and a valued consumer brand, with its name, products and brand identity continuing.
“The group’s other business divisions, The Original Beverage Co, Nature One and Natural Ingredients, would also retain their individual names and identities.”
The proposed change will be put to shareholders as a special resolution and requires approval by at least 75 per cent of votes cast by shareholders entitled to vote.
If approved, the name change will take effect when the Australian Securities and Investments Commission updates the company’s registration.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Akers expressed disappointment that the SPC name might be disappearing from the parent company, but said the main point was that the company remained viable and based in Shepparton.
“It’s been a part of Shepparton for more than a century and it has become an iconic name identified with the city,” he said.
“It’s reassuring that the products will still bear the name of SPC.”
According to a Spanish dictionary, ‘Altiva’ means arrogance, haughtiness or towering.
Country News asked what the new name would mean to the company and SPC responded that it reflected both the business today and ambitions for the future.
“‘Altiva’ represents elevation and vitality, capturing our energy and focus on the future, while ‘Global’ recognises our international operations and ambition to reach more markets,” the statement from SPC said.
“The name was not selected by reference to the Spanish-language meaning of the word.
“The proposed change relates only to the parent company’s corporate identity, the proposed change does not impact the SPC business.
“SPC remains an important business division and valued consumer brand, alongside our other established brands and trading divisions, which would also retain their individual names and identities.”
