“It is just ... I mean shifting a house is hard enough, let alone three schools,” he said.
Mr Cantlin is one of the people in charge of moving three campuses into the new Hawdon St, Shepparton, site of the college, spearheading an effort by staff to figure out what needs to move across to the new facility and what can be left behind to be sold.
Every single thing at all three campuses needs to be either moved or sold, with the campuses having decades’ worth of stuff on-site, going back to school bags with embroidered logos from the 1970s.
Gym and physical education equipment, woodworking and metalworking tools and home economics equipment make up a large portion of what will be sold and Mr Cantlin said it was “amazing” how much there was.
What they can’t move, they’ll sell, and Kevin Hicks clearing sale manager Chelsea McKay is the person who has to move the nearly 1000 lots on sale.
“We’re used to selling a lot of items but this is the biggest online one we’ve done. We’ve got 987 lots we’re at now,” she said.
“There’s a bit of everything. We’ve already had a lot of calls from community groups who want to buy in bulk and some of the woodwork and metalwork are backyard tradies.”
Ms McKay went to Wanganui and said some of her former classmates wanted lockers and other bits and pieces “for sentimental reasons”.
“I’ve never done a school before, it doesn’t happen very often.”
