Its recent garage sale triumph, which alone raked in an impressive $29,800, has tipped the scales towards a record-breaking year for the club, bringing the total to over $80,000.
These funds directly support programs that educate, empower and enable opportunities for local women and girls.
Each year, the Shepparton Soroptimists organise major charitable events, including a Valentine’s Day function, an International Women’s Day breakfast featuring inspirational speakers, an Oaks Day luncheon and a series of popular high teas.
While the club’s impact is far-reaching, its philanthropic efforts reach even further.
The group hosts two giant charity garage sales annually; funds scholarships for nurses, school students and young women pursuing trades; donates 60 meticulously packed backpacks to women experiencing homelessness; and supports Year 6 girls through The Big Sister Experience, ensuring a smooth transition to high school.
Additionally, it contributes to the Bella Ainsworth Perpetual Lift Off Scholarship, FoodShare, Marian Community, Caroline Chisholm Society and the Education First Youth Foyer.
It takes a village, and this village could use more people.
The Shepparton Soroptimists encourage new members to join their mission to uplift women across Greater Shepparton.
Interested women are invited to contact Elaine Lenon at 0438 253 886 and attend a meeting.
Soroptimist International of Shepparton would like to express its gratitude to the generous community members and local businesses that contributed to its successful year.
In particular, it would like to thank: Goodfellows Car and Truck Rentals, Gagliardi Scott Real Estate, The News, Plemo at One FM, Shop 221, Pampens Boutique, Avonlea Flowers, Maxam Printing, Shepparton Tile and Lighting Centre, Tom Brain, Rotary Club of Mooroopna, Shepparton Villages, and the hardworking ‘Soropti-misters’ who took on the heavy lifting during the garage sales.
