Art is popping up on walls and creatives are on the loose.
It can only mean one thing: Shepparton Festival is back.
This year’s packed two-week program under the theme ‘Thrive’ will be ignited by a festival opening celebration at the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton, followed by the unveiling of digital landscape UNEARTHED.
Awakened by food, art and live music from the melodic Shepparton Festival Choir and Shepparton Brass and Wind group, the debut event will feature art installation Reflection Room from Michael Ciavarella.
“Reflection Room will form a centrepiece at the event, complementing the existing pathways and platforms — showcasing how art and nature can thrive together,” festival creative director Jamie Lea said.
“We encourage everyone to bring a picnic and enjoy the opportunity to experience this accessible event in a familiar yet unusual place, all are welcome to come and celebrate with us.”
As one of Victoria’s longest running arts festivals, the Shepparton Festival has a lot to celebrate.
Running from Friday, March 18, to Sunday, April 3, this year’s program is as packed as it is varied.
With events for everyone, the festival includes performance, music, comedy, visual arts and workshops, highlighting local and surrounding artists.
Festival highlights include Mulana Garra by Neil Morris, known for the music project DRMNGNOW, which will be an immersive, multi-sensory experience intertwining the power of storytelling through hip-hop, poetry, Yorta Yorta language and ethereal soundscapes.
For a visual art experience, festival-goers can be immersed in the unique events of Collective Skate Art — a collective exhibition of local artists upcycling used skateboards, and Watercolour and Wine — a guided botanical art workshop with wine and platters provided.
After a two-year hiatus, headline event Converge on the Goulburn will also make its return.
At the iconic multicultural festival, audiences will get to revel in all things food and entertainment from across the globe, all in the heart of Shepparton at Victoria Park Lake.
