Police are investigating after a truck and a car collided on Newell Hwy in Tocumwal on Tuesday, July 28.
The highway was closed for the rest of Tuesday between Silo and Tuppal Rds with traffic diverted via Silo Rd before reopening early Wednesday morning.
Both drivers, aged in their 50s, were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, with the driver of the car airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne in a critical condition.
The driver of the truck was transported by NSW Ambulance to GV Health in Shepparton for treatment.
Police said a tipper truck towing a dual axle trailer collided with a Ford sedan before the sedan then caught on fire.
It is believed a Berrigan Shire Council vehicle was involved and council officers are working closely with authorities.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, including anyone that may have dashcam footage.
