The works, which started in February this year, are expected to be completed in mid-2027, weather permitting.
According to Transport Victoria’s website, the project is part of the Australian and Victorian governments’ Road Safety Program and will see the road undergo significant upgrades.
The improvements are designed to increase safety for all road users by reducing potential hazards and widening the sealed road surface, including the shoulders.
Crews will be on site from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, with no works planned for Sundays or public holidays. The project will be staged and completed in sections to minimise disruption to road users.
Additional works include installing audio tactile line marking in both directions, removing vegetation to improve visibility and upgrading existing barriers, along with other associated works to enhance road safety.
Crews have commenced works between the Goulburn Valley Hwy and Miepoll, with works between Miepoll and Violet Town expected to begin later in 2026.
Murchison-Violet Town Rd is also used as a detour route for both the Hume Fwy and Goulburn Valley Hwy. In the event of an emergency road closure, works will be paused to accommodate increased traffic flow.
Road users are urged to observe changed traffic conditions, follow on-site signage and allow extra travel time.
