Formed about 12 months ago, until this summer the group had only performed at private functions.
But when they supported local youth band The Goovy Dudes at the RSL in November, they got an offer for their first “paid gig”.
Band member Chris Bodey said it was after the band had committed to play at the RSL, they discussed doing something meaningful to support Deni High’s recovery after the November 29 fire.
“The Groovy Dudes - Harvey Campbell, Darcy Nilsson and Miles Allitt - were playing at the club on a Sunday and didn’t have enough songs to fill the full set, so Brett Allitt invited us to join them.
“The team at the RSL booked us on the back of that, and in a band practice it was suggested we donate our fee to the high school.
“When we told the RSL about it, they agreed to donate bar profits as well.”
The band name, Reminiscing, is a reflection on the type of music the band gravitates to.
They play a broad range of styles from the 1960s onwards, but Mr Bodey - a guitarist - said with Mark Ritchie on vocals, contemporary country is core. They also promise pub rock and Aussie rock classics.
Joining Mr Bodey and Mr Ritchie in the band are drummer Tony Moynihan, guitarist and singer Dennis Ellen and former Deniliquin High School teacher Mark Richards on keyboard.
Mr Bodey said the band may be joined on stage by a few special guests at the RSL, which could include Deniliquin High School music teacher Matt Kiley.
Reminiscing will be playing in the club’s main lounge next Friday, January 16 from 7.30pm to 11pm.
“Deni RSL is proud to host a fundraiser for Deni High School, bringing the community together after the recently destroyed classrooms and learning spaces,” the club said.
“Come along, enjoy a great night of live music, and show your support for a school that means so much to our community.”
