Grief affects individuals in various ways, and coping with loss can be a challenging process.
There’s no set rule for the duration of grieving, and while some may prefer solitude, Shepparton local Steve Neff believes in the power of staying connected.
“We’ve all experienced losses in our lives; unfortunately, it’s a part of life,” Mr Neff said.
“But feeling alone isn’t necessary when many others go through similar situations.
“Honouring the lives lived and bringing people together is crucial, creating love out of loss.”
Affectionately known as Neffy in the community, Mr Neff has passionately pursued this belief and has organised a candlelight vigil before Christmas to unite people.
Everyone is encouraged to attend with a candle to celebrate and remember their lost loved ones.
“Together, each of us can light a candle in memory of someone we’ve lost,” Mr Neff said.
“There’ll be music, opportunities for open conversations, and chances to share stories of the lives that have passed, allowing us to cherish their memory while having a sense of togetherness.
“I hope this event will be a beautiful moment for people not to feel alone, especially as Christmas approaches. If successful, we aim to make it an annual tradition.”
Neffy’s Candlelight Vigil will be held near the pine and jacaranda trees opposite KFC at Victoria Park Lake on Wednesday, December 20, at 8pm.
On-site support will be available for anyone seeking someone to talk to during the event.
