Proposal would split Shepparton and Mooroopna into two different state electorates

Rodney would include the Campaspe Shire local government area and the western parts of Moira Shire, taking voters from portions of the seats of Bendigo East, Bendigo West, Euroa and Murray Plains.

The big difference would be the addition of Mooroopna.

Without the population base of Mooroopna, One Nation would rename Shepparton as Goulburn Valley.

The seat would include the balance of Greater Shepparton east of the river, which is currently part of the seat of Euroa, and the balance of Moira Shire (currently part of Ovens Valley).

Murray Plains, held by Nationals leader Peter Walsh, would be abolished and Euroa, held by deputy Nationals leader Steph Ryan, would need to expand east to make up the numbers.

The submission is the first of any political party to be published following the close of the first round of the review process on March 1.

The Electoral Boundaries Commission will hold public hearings in April before releasing the proposed electoral boundaries in June.

Another round of submissions and public hearings will follow before the commission releases the new boundaries on October 14.

The review every eight years has the goal of ensuring each state seat represents approximately the same number of electors.

Differences in population growth impact individual seats.

Some outer metropolitan seats are more than 20 per cent over the target number of voters.

Ovens Valley, Mildura and Lowan all need to gain voters but lack population centres to draw from.
