“We still have a considerable amount of funding available to hand out to people. There’s multiple grants from Red Shield Appeal funding that people may be eligible for as a result of this flood event,” Rochester Salvation Army Captain Cameron Lovering said.
“There's still a very large number of people that can come forward, so we're encouraging people.”
He said there were three different tiers of grants available to people and those who thought they could get help should get in touch.
“The first tier was for anyone that was in a flood-impacted postcode, so that's Rochester and all the surrounding suburbs, including the Echuca area,” Capt Lovering said.
“The second tier is for people who had floodwater inside their homes, so the actual flood-impacted themselves.
“The third tier is for people that are still displaced. So that’s people living in their caravans or people that are perhaps living in their homes, but they haven’t been rebuilt yet.”
The Salvation Army has tried to create a system that makes it as simple as possible to reach out for help.
“You just need to give your full name, your phone number, your contact details and we'll get in contact with you and then we'll have an interview to determine what eligibility or finances you may be eligible for,” Capt Lovering said.
“I think it’s just about as easy and as simplified as it could possibly be to get that immediate financial assistance.”
Even if people are unsure if they qualify for assistance, Capt Lovering is encouraging them to come forward and find out.
“Please contact us regardless of what you think your position is. If you've been flood-affected, flood-impacted, if you need assistance, if you need help, if you need financial support, please reach out,” he said.
